I adored this couple the minute I got out of the car and Jessica came over and gave me a big hug. I had a feeling this engagement shoot would be special, and special it was! Jessica and I had talked a lot beforehand about locations and things we might be able to incorporate into the shoot – incorporating fall colors was really important to them (they’re getting married next fall!) and they’re both new to North Carolina so I picked some spots in the area that I knew would be beautiful. When I asked them what they like to do together Jessica told me they love to dance which made me a very, very happy photographer. =) I think it’s easy to see in these images how comfortable they are with each other and it made this shoot effortless (well, mostly. Keep reading!) I’m so, so excited about their wedding next November!
So we started at a local vineyard – I’d spotted it the day before and the colors were just perfection. After shooting there for a bit we walked back to the cars to head to the next spot less than a mile down the road but Jason’s car had other plans. Apparently on their way back from an early Thanksgiving with Jason’s family in Virginia they were t-boned by a deer (there was deer hair still in the door handle!) and the car sort of stopped doing important things, like, you know, starting and getting electricity to important gauges. We jumped it at the vineyard and it sort of coasted to the next location before it died for good. I was totally expecting they’d want to figure things out with the car and reschedule on a less stressful day but they were totally down to keep going so they changed clothes in their dearly departed car and we piled in mine and headed out to Jordan Lake just in time to catch some gorgeous evening light. I always expect the unexpected at weddings but this shoot reminded me to expect it no matter where I go.
Enjoy some of these sweet highlights!
