I loved the sweet energy coming from these two as soon as I met them for their engagement shoot this spring. Just try to catch Caroline not smiling. I couldn’t do it but maybe you can! Pair that bubbliness with John’s calm and peaceful demeanor and it’s easy to see how these two work so well together. John and Caroline live in Charlotte right now but the Triangle, where they met and spent so much time together, holds a special place in their hearts so they traveled up for the day to revisit some of their favorite places. A beautiful sunny day plus lots of love and laughter made this an absolutely perfect engagement session. I am so SO excited for their wedding next month! Enjoy some highlights from their sweet shoot!
So after spending some time shooting around Chapel Hill we moved to downtown Durham. I had to include this series below of this awesome guy dancing right through one of our shots. One of about a million reasons I love downtown Durham!
UNC engagement shoots make me extra sappy and this shoot with Amanda and Justin was no exception! I met the boy I love at UNC so spending the day photographing a couple in love who also got together there is just . . . well . . . ::sniff:: =) I just loved working with these two! Like most guys, Justin was a little nervous at first about this whole camera-in-your-face thing but it was so sweet to watch them interact and watch Amanda work her charm to warm Justin up and get him to smile and enjoy the initial weirdness of an engagement shoot. Anything for the one you love, right? =) I can’t wait for their wedding back in Amanda’s hometown this summer!

I adored this couple the minute I got out of the car and Jessica came over and gave me a big hug. I had a feeling this engagement shoot would be special, and special it was! Jessica and I had talked a lot beforehand about locations and things we might be able to incorporate into the shoot – incorporating fall colors was really important to them (they’re getting married next fall!) and they’re both new to North Carolina so I picked some spots in the area that I knew would be beautiful. When I asked them what they like to do together Jessica told me they love to dance which made me a very, very happy photographer. =) I think it’s easy to see in these images how comfortable they are with each other and it made this shoot effortless (well, mostly. Keep reading!) I’m so, so excited about their wedding next November!
So we started at a local vineyard – I’d spotted it the day before and the colors were just perfection. After shooting there for a bit we walked back to the cars to head to the next spot less than a mile down the road but Jason’s car had other plans. Apparently on their way back from an early Thanksgiving with Jason’s family in Virginia they were t-boned by a deer (there was deer hair still in the door handle!) and the car sort of stopped doing important things, like, you know, starting and getting electricity to important gauges. We jumped it at the vineyard and it sort of coasted to the next location before it died for good. I was totally expecting they’d want to figure things out with the car and reschedule on a less stressful day but they were totally down to keep going so they changed clothes in their dearly departed car and we piled in mine and headed out to Jordan Lake just in time to catch some gorgeous evening light. I always expect the unexpected at weddings but this shoot reminded me to expect it no matter where I go.
Enjoy some of these sweet highlights!
